Thank you for your steadfastness in joining us in prayer. At this time of great grief and sorrow due to the recent death of Canon Atwood, it is good that we can join together and intercede for our diocese and our world.
Paul, in his first letter to Timothy says, “I urge, then first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful lives in all goodness and holiness.” 1Timothy 2:1-2

IN MEMORIAM
CANON JAY ATWOOD
With mingled joy and sadness, we give thanks for the remarkable life of Canon Jay Atwood who died this week following a stroke.
Few people could have had more active ministries than Canon Atwood, or been more capable of a variety of tasks. It would have been enough to be a beloved parish priest for 34 years after leaving jobs at Disney’s EPCOT Park and the Florida Highway Patrol to attend seminary. But in addition, Canon Atwood employed his administrative, liturgical, and practical skills serving the Diocese of Fort Worth in a variety of elected and appointed positions, culminating in his appointment as Bishop Reed’s Canon to the Ordinary in January 2020. No one knew the workings of the Diocese or its history better. Besides all this, he carried Christ into the world as Chaplain at the Texas Motor Speedway and the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department. An Eagle Scout in his youth, he sponsored or led Boy Scout troops for many years. He lived to serve others, always with a smile and empathetic ear.
Bishop Keith Ackerman, who met Canon Atwood and his future wife, Kathy, when they were seminary students, wrote a remembrance, noting, “One of the principles of Scouting has been, ‘Always leave a campsite better than you found it.’ Well, Canon Jay’s entire ministry has been like that; and his partners in that ministry have consistently been his wife and children.”
Please keep Kathy, their children Jennifer and James, and all their family in your prayers, along with the Diocese of Fort Worth and Bishop Ryan Reed, who will sorely miss the presence of a dear friend and servant of Christ. Click Here for More.
